In Euro Truck Simulator 2, licence plates are assigned by each country.

Summary

Across Europe, most licence plates follow a similar visual format, with a national identifier on the left of the plate, followed by the unique alphanumeric sequence. Specific details on the plates may be based on the region the vehicle is registered to, the purpose of the vehicle, and the year it was registered.

Albania (AL)

Albanian plates feature an AA ### AA sequence.

Trailer plates have a green background, and appear as AA R ###.

Austria (A)

Austrian plates have the format of a district code and its coat of arms, followed by three numbers and two letters (AA ### AA).

Police plates have a 'BP' prefix, followed by five numbers (BP #####).

Belgium (B)

In Belgium, licence plates follow one of two formats: The older sequence of ###-AAA, or the newer sequence of 1-AAA-###.

Trailer licence plates follow the same standard as normal ones, but the first letter in the sequence will always be "Q".

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH)

Bosnian plates have the format A##-A-###.

Bulgaria (BG)

Bulgarian plates have a one or two letter province code, followed by four numbers and two letters (AA #### AA).

Croatia (HR)

Croatian plates feature a regional code, followed by three to four numbers and one to two letters.

Police Plates lack the national identifier, and have a six number sequence (### ###).

Czechia (CZ)

Czech plates have the formats #A# #### or #AA ####. The first letter is a regional code.

Denmark (DK)

In Denmark, plates follow the format AA ## ###.

Commercial plates are yellow in colour.

Trailers have a slightly different format of AA ## ##.

Estonia (EST)

In Estonia, all registration plates feature a random sequence of three numbers and three letters: ### AAA.

Finland (FIN)

Licence plates in Finland feature an AAA-### format. Uniquely, both Å and Ö are available as letters.

Trailer plates have the format of either DAA-## or WAA-###.

France (F)

French registration plates feature an AA-###-AA format. On the right side of the plate, the plate displays the logo of the Region and the number of the Department that the car was registered within.

Germany (D)

German plates feature a district code, followed by a sequence of two to three letters and three numbers (A AAA ###).

Hungary (H)

Hungarian plates are currently based on the 1990 to 2022 format of AAA-###. Validation stickers only appear on the rear plate.

Truck plates begin with an "F": FAA-###.

Trailer plates begin with an "X": XAA-###.

Police cars have the format RB ##-##.

Italy (I)

Italian plates have a format of AA ###AA. Italian rear plates are standard size, while front plates are compressed.

Trailer plates will always begin with an 'X'.

Police plates have the format A#####.

Kosovo (RKS)

Standard plates have a numeric area code (01 represents Prishtinë), followed by three numbers and one or two letters (## ###-AA).

Police plates have red text, and begin with 'POLICE' followed by ###=##.

Latvia (LV)

Latvian plates feature two letters and either three or four numbers: AA-### or AA-####.

Trailer licence plates will only feature a single letter: A-####.

Lithuania (LT)

Lithuania plates have a format of AAA ###.

Trailer plates have an abridged format of AA ###.

Luxembourg (L)

Luxembourg has a simple AA #### sequence.

Montenegro (MNE)

Passenger plates feature a two-letter municipality code, two letters and three numbers (AA AA###).

Police plates begin with P and feature blue text (P AA###).

Netherlands (NL)

The Netherlands features several variants of a six-digit sequence.

Truck plates have 'B' as the first letter.

Trailer plates have 'O' as the first letter.

North Macedonia (NMK)

Passenger plates feature a two-letter municipality code, followed by four numbers and two letters (AA ####AA).

Police plates lack the country identifier, and have a six number format in blue text (###-###).

Norway (N)

Registration plates in Norway feature a two letter city code, and a four or five number sequence (AA #### or AA #####).

Russian Federation (RUS)

Standard Russian plates are split between an alphanumeric sequence, and a regional numeric code that represents the location the vehicle is registered in. The following codes represent in-game cities:

Serbia (SRB)

Serbian plates feature a municipality code, followed by a sequence of three or four numbers and one or two letters.

Trailer plates have an inverted format to passenger plates (letters, numbers, municipality code).

Police plates have a dark blue background and the format П ###-###.

Slovakia (SK)

Slovakian plates have the format AA ###AA. The first two letters are a district code.

Slovenia (SLO)

Slovenian plates have a region code, followed by a four or five alphanumeric sequence with five variants.

Police plates are P ##-###.

Spain (E)

Standard plates feature the format of four numbers and three letters in a sequential order: (#### AAA). AI truck trailers will share the same alphanumeric sequence as the truck it is attached to.

Truck trailers that are not attached to AI will spawn with a unique trailer plate sequence of R #### AAA. In real life, these plates are displayed alongside the regular plate of the tractor vehicle, and have a black on red color palette.

Spain features several state plates for government vehicles. Guardia Civil police cars feature plates with the format PCG ####U

In Catalonia, Mossos d'Esquadra police cars feature the format CME ####.

In Basque Country, Ertzaintza police cars feature the format E ####. These plates lack the blue band, and feature a stylised 'E'.


Sweden (S)

All Swedish plates have a AAA ### format.

Switzerland (CH)

Swiss plates have a two letter Canton code, followed by five numbers: AA #####). The rear plate features the Swiss coat of arms on the left side, and the Cantonal coat of arms on the right side. The front licence plate is smaller in size and only displays the registration code.

Turkey (TR)

Standard registration plates in Turkey follow the format of a two digit province code, followed by a sequence of either three letters and two numbers (## AAA ##) or two letters and three numbers (## AA ###).

Police vehicles have an all-blue plate without the national identifier stripe. These have the format of ## A ####, with the letter always being 'A'.

Other government vehicles such as ambulances feature black licence plates, and follow the same formatting rules as standard licence plates.

United Kingdom (UK)

UK licence plates follow a format of a region and city identifier code, followed by a number based on the year of issue, and then a three letter sequence (AA## AAA). Plates attached to the front of a vehicle are white, while plates attached to the rear are yellow. Trailers will share the same sequence as the vehicle it is attached to.

For the year identifier, vehicles registered between March and August will feature the last two digits of the current year (for example, an April 2012 registration will become "12"), while vehicles registered between September and February will feature the previous code, plus 50 (November 2012 will become "62").
