Throughout the years of Euro Truck Simulator 2, Luxembourg and Slovakia were added to the game, while Spain and Portugal were omitted, as well as a major part of France and Italy. The map, on the other hand, became more detailed, and new cities were added to most countries. There are 34 countries that are accessible.
The country restriction is removed in Euro Truck Simulator 2, meaning that a fee is no longer required to gain access to other countries. The fuel price differences, however, remain.
In Euro Truck Simulator 2, the Italian cities of Ancona, Bologna, Genova and Roma were originally planned to be included in the base game, but were omitted in the finished game due to time constraints. Those 4 cities are included in the Italia DLC instead.

4 December 2024: The Greece map expansion is released, adding Greece.
States, the similar territory type in American Truck Simulator, but with all of them being in the same country (i.e. the United States). They function essentially the same as countries in Euro Truck Simulator 2 do and are even referred to as such in the game config files.
