Bulgaria (Bulgarian: България) is a country in southeastern Europe featured in the Road to the Black Sea map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2.[1][2][3]

Summary

Bulgaria is bordered by Romania to the north, Serbia to the northwest, North Macedonia to the southwest, Greece to the south, and Turkey to the southeast. It is also bounded on the east by the Black Sea.

Bulgaria is a medium-sized Slavic country (110,994 square kilometers) bordered by the Black Sea to the east, and Turkey to the south. Its location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia has led it to serve as the staging ground for multiple cultural and strategic shifts over the past centuries and millennia. As the birthplace of the Cyrillic alphabet in 9th century AD, it was also part of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, and then the Soviet-led Eastern Bloc, before finally becoming an independent parliamentary republic in 1991. Relics of this amalgamation of cultures can still be seen throughout the country as you drive along its winding country roads, bustling cities, and serene coastal roads.

Trivia

  • Bulgaria has a total length of 2,245 km of borders. For comparison, the maximum depth of the Black Sea is 2,245 m.
  • At the time of the release of the Road to the Black Sea map expansion, Bulgaria was not yet part of the Schengen Area, resulting in border crossings being placed along the border with its fellow European Union members Romania and later Greece. However, Romania and Bulgaria were accepted into the Schengen Area in 2025, and all border controls were lifted, but it is unknown if the border crossings depicted in-game will be removed in a future update.
