Roads

The Portuguese road network is quite complex, and is broken up into four semi-overlapping systems:

  1. The Fundamental Network, consisting of Principal Routes which form important connections between administrative centers and international entry points.
  2. The Complementary Network, consisting of Complementary Routes and National Roads which provide connections between the Fundamental Network and regional urban centers.
  3. The National Highway Network, consisting of Motorways built specifically for carrying motor traffic.
  4. The Regional Network, consisting of Regional Roads serving local connections.

While the Regional Network does not make an appearance in-game, the three other networks are all featured in Euro Truck Simulator 2, and frequently overlap with one another, resulting in varied signage across the country.

Development History

Portugal was initially introduced to Euro Truck Simulator 2 with the release of the Iberia DLC. However, over subsequent updates, the country would continue to be modified.

Following community feedback, SCS announced the addition of new roads to the Iberia DLC, which would include the addition of the N259 and N260 in southern Portugal, alongisde the new city of Beja. These changes would be released in update 1.43.
