Bakersfield is between Los Angeles to the south, Barstow to the east, Fresno and Huron to the north and Santa Maria to the west.

East of the city center and north of Los Angeles along the CA14, there is a Chemso plant. Heading towards Bakersfield on the westbound CA58, there is a rest area.

West

To the west of the city center, at the intersection of the CA58 and the IS5, there is a scenery town called Buttonwillow. One can find there two gas stations (one is a Gallon Oil depot with a rest area), a service shop and a large rest area.

North

Another larger part of the city, which could be Tulare, can be found to the north of the city at the CA99. There are a Rail Export depot, a Chemron gas station, and a Starlite Inn.

Landmarks

One of the most recognizable landmarks in Bakersfield is the Bakersfield Sign.

Connections

The CA58 runs west towards San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria (via the USCA101) and east to Barstow.
The CA99 on the west side of the city runs south to Los Angeles (via I-5) and north to Fresno and Sacramento to the north.

In addition:

The IS5 intersects SR 58 west of Bakersfield and runs south to Los Angeles and north towards Huron and San Francisco.
The USCA395 runs north from the CA14 and SR 58 southeast of Barstow to Bishop, Carson City, and Reno, Nevada.
