Oregon is a state of the United States, which is featured in American Truck Simulator as a map expansion DLC that was announced on February 1, 2018 to celebrate the game's second anniversary and was released on October 4, 2018. It is the third map of DLC involving map expansions, but the second paid one.

Summary

The state is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Washington to the north, Idaho to the east, Nevada and California to the south.

Geography

Oregon is located in the Western coast of the United States. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Washington to the north, Idaho to the east, Nevada and California to the south. Oregon is 295 miles (475 km) north to south at longest distance, and 395 miles (636 km) east to west. With an area of 98,381 square miles (254,810 km2), Oregon is slightly larger than the United Kingdom. It is the ninth largest state in the United States.

Geographically, the state can be divided into six regions: the Coast Range, the Willamette Lowland, the Cascade Mountains, the Klamath Mountains, the Columbia Plateau, and the Basin and Range Province. The Coast Range runs from north to south along the Pacific Ocean. Much of these low mountain ranges are forested with evergreens such as Spruce, Fir, and Hemlock. The average mountaintop in the Coast Range rises less than 2,000 feet (609 m) above sea level, though Mary's Peak, southwest of Corvallis, Oregon, reaches 4,097 feet (1,248 m) above sea level. Along the coast, cliffs rise almost 1,000 feet (304 m) high over the Pacific Ocean. The Triangle Lake Valley was a very ancient lake. Many small coastal lakes are scattered throughout the Coast Range. The Willamette Lowland is a narrow strip of land to the east of the Coast Range along the Willamette River. The Willamette River flows north into the Columbia River. The soil is rich in the Willamette Lowlands and the climate is mild. The Cascade Mountains rise to 11,239 feet (3,425 m) above sea level (Mount Hood). The Cascade Mountains provide a rugged landscape where many of the nation's highest peaks can be found. Mount Hood is the highest point in Oregon. Other high peaks include Mt. Jefferson at 10,497 feet (3,199 m) above sea level, Three Sisters, over 10,000 feet (3,048 m) above sea level, and Mount McLoughlin, 9,495 feet (2,894 m) high. Many lakes can be found in the Cascade Mountains. Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States. It's 1,932 feet (588 m) deep. The Klamath Mountains is located in the southwest corner of the state. The Klamath Mountains are covered by dense forests. The Columbia Plateau covering most of eastern Oregon and extending into Idaho and Washington. Thousands of years ago, the Columbia Plateau was formed by lava flowing from cracks in the earth's crust. Oregon's Wheat farms are found on the Columbia Plateau. Much of the Columbia Plateau is quite rugged, however, and mountains such as the Blue Mountains and the Wallowa Mountains rise in the northeast. On the Oregon/Idaho border the Snake River has cut Hells Canyon deep into the earth. The average depth of this gorge, located between the Wallowa Mountains and the Seven Devils Mountains in Idaho, is 5,500 feet (1,676 m). The Basin and Range Region covers a section of southeastern Oregon. The Basin and Range Region in Oregon is marked by high basins and a few steep mountains. Much of this region is semi desert.

Climate

Most of Oregon has a generally mild climate, though there is significant variation given the variety of landscapes across the state. The state's western region (west of the Cascade Range) has an oceanic climate, populated by dense evergreen mixed forests. Western Oregon's climate is heavily influenced by the Pacific Ocean; the western third of Oregon is very wet in the winter, moderately to very wet during the spring and fall, and dry during the summer. The relative humidity of Western Oregon is high except during summer days, which are semi-dry to semi-humid; Eastern Oregon typically sees low humidity year-round.

Go down the road to experience the wild beauty of the 'Beaver State', Oregon. Its natural beauty includes deep forests, plenty of water areas and rivers, and encompassing volcanoes, high deserts, and arid scrublands. The evergreen natural scenery will go along with the deserted countryside, as well as dense city areas like Portland and Salem.

Development

Companies

Many new industries like logging or furniture are introduced with this DLC.

Wood Production Chain

With the new DLC, truckers are able to deliver the whole "chain" of a log's manufacturing.

"...With Oregon, we are bringing a new feature - ...chains. As there is a huge forestry industry, we... want to implement the whole chain of getting the lumber and moving it to the lumber factories and moving the furniture from the factories. We want to implement... [a] more natural flow of the cargo that should come with Oregon as well."[2]

Haddock Shipyard

Haddock Shipyard in Portland

With the Oregon DLC, SCS made prefabs for real life locations like a port on Swan Island (Haddock Shipyard).

Rest Stops

The Oregon Map Expansion features many truck stops that are recreated from ones in real life.

Trivia

  • Prior to the release of the Oregon DLC, on March 4, 2016, mapmaker NWbyNW created an in-depth vision of Oregon and made a fictional map of what they proposed to be in the Oregon map. Source. Map.
