U.S. Route 40 (US 40) is an east–west US Highway in northeastern Utah and northwestern and eastern Colorado in American Truck Simulator. The route is separated into two sections: The first section runs form Interstate 80 and US 189 in Silver Summit to US 287 in Kit Carson. The second section runs concurrent with US 385 within Cheyenne Wells. In real life, US 40 runs 2285 miles (3678 km) between Silver Summit, UT, and Atlantic City, NJ.

Course

US 40 begins in Silver Summit, UT, at its junction with Interstate 80 in the Wasatch Mountains. Running concurrent with US 189, the highway descends past the Jordanelle Reservoir (over which is a westbound rest stop) to Heber City, where the 189 breaks away to Provo. Winding through the forested mountains, the highway crosses Daniels Pass (7995 ft), where it leaves the Great Basin and enters the Uinta Basin, the northernmost region of the Colorado Plateau. As the foliage thins, the highway passes a rest area and crosses the Starvation Reservoir (which features an overlook) before reaching the town of Duchesne, where it begins a concurrency with US 191. The highway proceeds through the basin, past the Northern Ute Veterans Monument and Fort Duchesne (where there are travel services and access to Gallon Oil fracking sites, which feature a viewpoint) to Vernal, all the while with the Uinta Mountains standing prominently to the north (the Uintas contain Kings Peak, which is the highest point of Utah). At Vernal the 191 heads north to Wyoming, while the 40 continues on to cross the Green River, followed soon by the state line.

Soon after entering Colorado, the 40 passes through the town of Dinosaur, where it intersects with CO 64, providing access to Rangely and Grand Junction (the latter via CO 139). After passing the entrance to the Canyon Area of Dinosaur National Monument, the highway runs through a large, dry region, which includes the town of Maybell. At Craig the highway meets CO 13, which provides access to the Craig Power Station to the south (an HMS Machinery depot) and future access to Wyoming to the north. Out of Craig the highway runs along the Yampa River at the southern edge of the Elkhead Mountains (a subrange of the Park Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains) to Steamboat Springs, where, to the south of town, CO 131 heads south to a Deepgrove logging site. The 40 then traverses Rabbit Ears Pass, which divides the Central Park Range to the north and the Gore Range to the south; at the summit, at 9426 feet, the highway crosses the Great Continental Divide, which is crossed again on the eastbound descent, which runs below Rabbit Ears Mountain, the pass' namesake. The highway then runs along the edge of the Rabbit Ears Range, where Whitely Peak towers over the road. After meeting with US 34 at its western terminus in Granby, the 40 passes alongside the ski resort town of Winter Park, and then proceeds to traverse the Central Front Range via Berthoud Pass, which features many tight switchbacks and steep grades, as is typical in the mountains of Colorado; the summit, at 11,307 feet, offers a rest area, and it is here at the highways highest point where it crosses the Great Divide a third and final time. The highway then descends from the summit to Interstate 70, where it begins a concurrency.

US 40 breaks from I-70 in the High Plains at Limon, where it runs concurrent with US 287 past the ghost town of Wild Horse to Kit Carson, where the concurrency ends. There is presently a gap in the highway between Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells, where the highway runs concurrent with US 385 for a very short distance before reaching its current eastern terminus. From there the highway continues into Kansas, although there it no indication it will be extended.
