US 2 is a US Highway in northern Washington, Idaho, and Montana split into two sections. The first section runs from Interstate 5 in Everett to US 395 in Spokane. The second section runs from Pine Street in Sandpoint to Culbertson. In real life, US 2 runs a total of 2575 miles (4144 km), split between two segments: the western segment between Everett, WA, and St. Ignace, MI; and the eastern between Rouses Point, NY, and Houlton, ME.

Course

US 2 begins at its junction with Interstate 5 in eastern Everett, WA. The highway runs along the Skykomish River through the Cascade Range, where a westbound weigh station is featured. After the highway passes the west portal of the Cascade Tunnel (the longest rail tunnel in the US), it ascends Stevens Pass via a large switchback. Across the summit (4061 ft) the highway descends past a rest area to US 97, which begins a concurrency, before reaching Sunnyslope, where, to the north of Wenatchee, it crosses the Columbia River. At Orondo the 2 breaks away from the 97 and winds out of the gorge of the Columbia to the Columbia Plateau. The highway then crosses the Grand Coulee at the southern edge of Banks Lake, where, at Coulee City, it intersects with WA 155, which heads north to Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam. The highway proceeds across the plains of the plateau, past an HMS Machinery depot and a weigh station, to Interstate 90, which it follows to Spokane. At Spokane the 2 runs concurrent with US 395 before splitting off, where the Washington segment ends. After a gap in the highway, US 2 resumes in Sandpoint, ID, where, in the north of town, it joins US 95, with which it runs concurrent to Bonners Ferry. From there the 2 passes through Moyie Springs and crosses the Moyie River Gorge via a high bridge; on the eastern side of the gorge there's an unmarked road leading to a wayside overlooking the gorge and its bridge.

Shortly after crossing the Moyie, the highway enters Montana, where it begins running along the Kootenai River (known as the Koonetay in Canada) and passes through Troy. East of Troy is a weigh station with a rest area; after passing this weigh station, the highway runs through the gorge of the Kootenai, between the Purcell Mountains to the north and the Cabinets to the south, where the famous Kootenai Falls can be seen. Out of the gorge, the highway then enters the Flathead Valley, where it passes through Kalispell (where it intersects with US 93) and, trending north, runs through Evergreen, La Salle, and Columbia Falls. At Columbia Falls the highway resumes its eastward course, and, after joining the Flathead River, runs through Bad Rock Canyon, where there is a rest stop. The village of West Glacier follows, where the highway intersects with the western end of the Going to the Sun Road. What follows is Marias Pass, a scenic and historic route along the southern boundary of Glacier National Park, between the Lewis Range to the north and the Flathead and Sawtooth Ranges to the south. Across the pass are two rest areas, one of them at the summit of the pass, where, at 5213 feet (1589 m), the highway crosses the Great Continental Divide; this rest area also features an obelisk honoring President Theodore Roosevelt, and a statue of John F. Stevens, the Great Northern civil engineer who was the first to survey the pass (incidentally, he is also the namesake for Stevens Pass in Washington). After passing through East Glacier Park Village, the highway crosses the gorge of the Two Medicine via a high bridge, and there enters the Great Plains. Soon after the highway reaches Browning, where it intersects with US 89, which is followed by Cut Bank and Shelby, where I-15 is reached. The highway continues along the Hi-Line (the transport corridor across northern Montana) through the towns of Chester, Havre (at the northern terminus of US 87), Chinook, Malta ( at the intersection with US 191), Glasgow (at the intersection with MT 24), Wolf Point, and Culbertson (at the intersection with MT 16). US 2 currently ends at a weigh station/rest area in the eastern limits of Culbertson, where it will eventually continue into North Dakota.
