Summary

The Kansas City metropolitan area is a bi-state metropolitan area around Kansas City, Missouri, which also includes its surrounding suburbs, such as Kansas City and Overland Park in Kansas. It straddles the state border between Missouri and Kansas, covering 8,472 square miles (21,940 km2) and having a population of more than 2.2 million people. It is the second-largest metropolitan area in Missouri (after St. Louis), and the largest metropolitan area in Kansas.

Founded in the 1830s, Kansas City sits on the Missouri River at its confluence with the Kansas River–during its foundation, the city was a port of the Missouri River, which then was incorporated as a town on June 1, 1850, and then as a city nearly three years later on March 28, 1853. Between the 1940s and 1970s, Kansas City had a heady time when it was sometimes considered the crossroads of the world, fueled by Harry Truman, who was Presidency of hometown native from 1945 1953, followed by Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. The city planned to turn the cosmopolitan hub into the gateway to the world. But the era's great expectations died down with the diminished presence of TWA in the 1930s.

The Missouri side of Kansas City features the skyline and its downtown business district, which is surrounded by the city's freeway loop simply known as the "Downtown Loop", a complex layout of highways carrying the Interstate Highways of I-70, I-35 and I-670, and some other roads including US 71, US 24, and US 40. The Kansas side of the city is smaller than Missouri's, although Kansas City in Kansas is the third-largest city in the said state after Overland Park and Wichita. Kansas City, Kansas features a variety of different industries including the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant, the Associated Wholesale Grocers and Kansas City Steak Company, which are based within the city. The federal government is the largest employer in the Kansas City metro area proper, with more than 146 agencies.

Kansas City, which is split between Kansas and Missouri, truckers will cruise through the Kansas side, catching a glimpse of Missouri's downtown. The economic spotlight shines on the new Caliber Motors car factory, alongside a bustling scene with a custom grain elevator, trailer service, and a general warehouse. Reflecting its historical railroad significance, Kansas City features rail-related depots, including the rail supply depot and railroad construction depot. Beyond the city limits, the Railroad Intermodal awaits. During your journey, catch a glimpse of the iconic Strawberry Hill!
