Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel (or 18 Wheels of Steel: Hard Truck) is the first ever created truck simulation game developed by SCS Software and published by ValuSoft. It is part of ValuSoft's Hard Truck series that also includes games by other developers. It is also the first installment of the 18 Wheels of Steel series.

Summary

The truck driving game that started it all: be your own boss behind the wheel of your big rig in SCS Software's first truck driving simulator. Bid on jobs, then hit the road to deliver faster than the competition. Road hazards, low fuel and even the police can affect the timeliness and condition of your deliveries—and impact your bottom line. It's all in a day's work when you're driving big rigs.

  • Jump behind the wheel of 7 powerful trucks including monster 18 wheelers, flatbeds and tankers.
  • Log thousands of miles as you travel actual US highways across the Desert, through the Mountains and along the Coast, with 15 cities to visit across 11 states.
  • Bid on 16 cargo loads, weighing the hazards and payoffs of each delivery.
  • Manage your cargo—overloaded or carelessly handled goods can slow your delivery time and reduce your payout.

Gameplay

Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel has very similar gameplay to most other installments of the 18 WoS series, focusing on taking jobs and delivering cargo. The game also features AI traffic, a fatigue simulation, road hazards, weigh stations, a time limit for the jobs and a simple business management simulation, where drivers can be hired and routes set up to make profit. Earlier games of the series also had racing options, but they have been removed in this one.

Load symbols

There are loads with warnings which are indicated by 3 symbols.

  1. Cup - don't damage your load. Even 1% damage makes $0 earning for delivering that load.
  2. Stopwatch - deliver your load on time. Even 00:01 delay in delivery resets your earnings to $0 for that load.
  3. Weight with lb sign - load's mass is excessive. Avoid weigh stations where you will pay a huge penalty ($15000 or more) for overloaded cargo. Drive on the roads without weigh stations. Calculate your route carefully (in this case) before you take your job.

Caution

All 3 symbols listed above may appear below one load.

Maps

There are three maps of different parts of the United States in the game:

Trucks

The game includes 7 (after updating to 1.2 version) fictional truck models that are not customizable

  • Rusty (based on the truck from Spielberg's Duel)
  • Topolino
  • T1000
  • Brava
  • Roadmaster
  • FreightWay
