A1 (United Kingdom)
In UK Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2, the A1 is the number of two sections of roads in the United Kingdom, between Cambridge and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The A1 is the only British road with both motorway and ordinary A-road sections featured in the games.
Features
The following describes the A1 in the game, starting from the southern end.
The road starts from a junction with A14 north of Cambridge. The A14 turns off to the west while the main route becomes A1. It runs for 95 miles with a service area available at the 37th mile.
After that, it meets the M18 and M180 in a three way junction west of Grimsby and disappears. Truckers wishing to continue north have to follow the M18 and then turn off upon encountering the M1.
The A1 continues from the M1 at the junction with M62. Truckers would meet two junctions and three service areas before reaching Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
There are three junctions near the city, with the middle one also connects a minor road towards Carlisle (A69 in real-life) and the northern one serves as the end of A1 in the game.
While the A1 in real life continues towards Edinburgh, in the game the A696, A68 and A720 finish the job.
Trivia
- While Newcastle-upon-Tyne was featured in the first Euro Truck Simulator game, the A1 did not appear as in real life. Instead, the M1 went all the way to Newcastle. In 2015, some have suggested renumbering the A1 south of Newcastle to M1.
- In Euro Truck Simulator 2, one of the two northern approaches into London might be following the alignment of the real-life A1, but none of them are signposted as such in the game.
