Operation Genoa Bridge

Operation Genoa Bridge was an event held by SCS Software through the World of Trucks platform, featuring Euro Truck Simulator 2. The event started on June 4, 2020 and ended on June 22, 2020.

It was the second World of Trucks event to feature a road repair, the first one being Operation Big Sur held in 2018.

Ponte Morandi, which spanned above Genova and carried the Autostrada A10, collapsed on August 14, 2018, causing casualties and severance of the road, as well as the railway underneath. Unlike the Big Sur incident, SCS continued to feature the old bridge in ETS 2 until the replacement bridge was near completion.

Event History

SCS first released a teaser image on May 19, 2020, featuring a construction site in front of the tunnel portal just east of the highway interchange out of Genova[1].

The event was officially announced on May 28[2], and released (via a game update) on June 4[3].

With the community goal fulfilled after about two weeks, SCS announced the conclusion of the event and the release of the new bridge on June 22, 2020[4].

Map Change

Upon the release of the event, the original Ponte Morandi in-game was replaced by a construction site, making Genova only accessible from the west. New depots were introduced on the two sides of the bridge and in front of a tunnel, with the western depot just to the east of the interchange out of Genova, while the eastern depot just to the south of the junction between A7, A10 and A12.

Non-player vehicles were programmed to move away from accesses to both depots. The eastern depot was on a piece of road normally closed to players.

For the duration of the event, Genova was accessible to players without the Italia DLC. SCS also offered a discount of the DLC for the duration of the event.

Both depots are owned be Costruzione di Edifici.

Rules

CDE SRL est ovest.jpg
  • All Euro Truck Simulator 2 players with a World of Trucks-connected profile may participate in the event.
  • To participate in the event, a player must make deliveries through external contracts to / from either of the two Costruzione di Edifici depots, labelled as CDE EST and CDE OVEST respectively (map icons of the two depots are included in this page for easy reference).
  • Deliveries to the depots are available from the following 8 Italian cities:
  • The two bridge depots offer cargo to the 8 cities mentioned above, as well as Genova itself.
  • Genova does NOT offer cargo to the bridge depots.
  • There is no restriction on the number of deliveries made to the involved cities, i.e. it is theoretically possible for a player to make deliveries to / from only one city (outside Genova).

Mission Objective

  • To achieve the personal goal, each individual player must make at least 6 deliveries to / from each of the bridge depot.
  • The community goal requires all participating players to make at least 500,000 deliveries to each of the two bridge depots, adding up to the total of 1,000,000 deliveries or more.

Rewards

  • All players completing their personal goals receive personal World of Trucks Achievement, and a "Terra Constructor" paint job for use in ETS 2. The paint job is a Steam inventory item and is tradable.

  • When the community goal was reached, SCS would upload another update to feature the new bridge in the game map. All players completing their personal goals would receive a Steam inventory item: A hanging Plush Terra Road Roller.

Trivia

  • For every delivery made to the bridge depots, three cut-scenes of the bridge construction were shown, before the game started synchronizing with World of Trucks.
  • If the player arrived at the bridge depots at (in-game) night time, the construction bridge's pillars would be illuminated in Italy's flag colors.
  • On the World of Trucks home page, the progress display was done in the shape of the new bridge, with the progress starting from the two sides to the middle.
  • After SCS made a progress report on June 8, a player named NikiCH left a comment, noting about his inability to find cargo in Suzzara. SCS replied with an acknowledgement on a mechanism change, forcing the only depot there to always have at least one order available for the event.
  • The cargo Mobile Crane Rex-Tex 45 required the Heavy Cargo Pack DLC for the player to see it in the Job Market.
