Greetings Truck Simulator Wiki contributors,

I would like to inform you all about settlements being added to the Truck Simulator Wiki, specifically the mentioned-only settlements, the ones that are only seen on road signs, acting as control cities, but these settlements are not rendered in-game. Let's get further into what is going to happen, and what was going to happen.

The "original" future of mentioned-only settlements in the wiki

Previously, I was originally planning on separating the mentioned-only settlements (Scenery cities & towns and villages) and put them in their own list of mentioned-only settlements as a project of mine. While in the planning of this project, I have made comparisons with ETS2 and ATS in the wiki.

If we compare the lists of settlements in ETS2 and ATS in the wiki, ATS has a list of "scenery towns", which lists settlements that are rendered and accessible, and settlements that are rendered but not accessible to the player. When I compared that with ETS2's list of "villages", most, or all articles, list settlements that are accessible, settlements that are rendered but not accessible, and also settlements that are mentioned only on road signs excluding entrance/welcome sings.

This project was to create a full list of mentioned-only settlements that only appeared on road signs as control cities in both ETS2 and ATS. The "list" would have included the names of the mentioned-only settlements without any link that would lead to its own article about the settlement. For more specification, if the list included "Idaho City", a mentioned-only city in western Idaho near Boise, the title of the settlement would be unlinked. The reason I wanted these types of settlements in-game "unlinked" is because it would be unnecessary to write an article about a specific settlement that is only mentioned on road signs if an entrance sign is not rendered, nor the actual settlement is rendered regardless of whether its accessible or not. But then I went deeper thinking about the project after some more mentioned-only settlements were found recently, so let's move on to the next topic.

My thoughts and explanation of mentioned-only settlements in the wiki

So, here's what I thought first: Why does the list of villages in ETS2 include mentioned-only settlements, while ATS only lists settlements that are rendered regardless of whether they're accessible or not? So, that's when I planned out this project - Create a list of mentioned-only settlements in ETS2 and ATS. But regardless of mentioned-only settlements having its own list in the wiki, it would create more work for contributors, including myself. So recently, I thought, "maybe the Truck Simulator Wiki shouldn't include a list of settlements that are mentioned on road signs without having to be rendered in either of these games."

So that is why I am writing this; Having to create a list of mentioned-only settlements in ETS2 and ATS would (almost) sound like that if any of these games are updated, new signage may be changed, and new control cities would be added but not rendered, and then that could create more work to search for more of the settlements found on road signs only. After thinking deeper about this, I have finally made the decision about the mentioned-only settlements in the wiki.

The new "updated" policy involving with mentioned-only settlements in ETS2 and ATS

In regardless of the mentioned-only settlements in player-accessible in-game places in both ETS2 and ATS, they will have to be removed from the wiki.

Here are the changes that will arrive in the near future for the Truck Simulator Wiki with anything that is involved with mentioned-only settlements:

  • If there is already an article about the mentioned-only settlement, the article will be deleted.
  • If a list of in-game settlements includes at least one settlement mentioned on road-signs only, they will be removed from the list.
    • Not only ETS2 will have this treatment, any settlements mentioned on road signs in ATS will also have this treatment: Articles will be deleted and mentioned-only settlements will be unlinked.
  • This action is optional whether it should be taken or not: Any image showcasing a settlement on a road sign only (if the settlement is not rendered in-game) will be deleted.

You can revert this action if the following:

  • The settlement will be added in a future update or map expansion. However, there must be at least an announcement cited for a specific settlement that will be rendered.

Updated as of October 22, any mentioned-only settlements will have its own article if:

  • Settlements shown on distance-based road signs that lead not to the "rendered" settlement but a junction nearby the area in real-life. (See Grass Range for example)

Updates

October 22, 2022 - I actually didn't thought about the settlements mentioned on distance-based road signs. Grass Range for example, is shown on distance-based road signs, but the distance is measured to the junction. Because of that, the wiki will include articles about settlements that are not rendered, but the junction is only featured nearby the settlement that is not rendered in-game and also comparing that with its real-life counterpart.

Any feedback?

If you have any questions or thoughts about the new conventions coming to the Truck Simulator Wiki, please do not hesitate to leave any feedback in my blog. I thank you for the time to read this.
